Our Committees

Grants Committee:

Members of the Grants Committee meet on a regular basis during the grant cycle, the first week in January until grants are awarded in June. Members attend training in order to read and evaluate grant applications, conduct site visits to nonprofit grantees. Members work with the events committee to hold a casual reception for voting in May and for awarding grants in June. Grants Committee members meet within one week of awarding grants to conduct a “debriefing session.”Members can also work with Communications/Publicity Committee on publicizing these events. No member of SOS will be eligible to read grants or to attend site visits unless they have attended training.

Communications/Public Relations Committee:

Members of this committee work with the committee chair to make Seeds of Strength as well known and positively viewed in Georgetown as possible. Ideas can be submitted at Guiding Circle meetings. Members work with Membership Chair to develop written/oral presentations that can be used by members to increase public awareness. Members also work with other committee chairs to ensure that the newsletter editor has their material to meet each quarterly deadline.

Events Committee:

The purpose of the Events Committee is to plan and implement all events established and scheduled by the Seeds of Strength Guiding Circle. There are currently six annual events, sponsored by SOS:

  • Social event, titled Wine Chocolate, Women and Giving , held the 3rd week of February
  • Voting Reception held in May
  • Awards Reception held in June
  • Annual Membership Luncheon held in September
  • Educational Event held in October
  • Holiday Brunch held the second week of December

In order to accomplish this, the members of this committee select specific venues, decide date and time of each event. They determine style of invitation, decorations needed or theme of event , select menu, if appropriate and work with Guiding Circle to determine cost to members.
For each event, event committee members greet and welcome attendees, set up registration table, set up, decorate and clean up, liaise with venue on menu, AV equipment, contact speakers when appropriate.

Membership Committee:

The purpose of the Membership Committee is to keep accurate records of memberships and to help members connect with a committee, if they desire committee involvement. Members of this committee help the committee chair to reach out to the membership as a whole, or to particular members, based on need. Members of this committee prepare new member packets, new member orientation material and conduct new member orientations. Also, these members help with recruitment “gatherings” throughout the year.
